What do I need?

An iPhone running iOS 26 or later. No account required.

How do I add music?

Tap the ⋯ menu in the Library tab, then choose "Import from Files" to select audio files, or "Download from URL" to paste a direct link. You can also receive files via AirDrop or the iOS Share Sheet.

What audio formats are supported?

MP3, M4A, M4B (audiobooks), WAV, AAC, AIFF, FLAC, and other formats supported by iOS.

How do I subscribe to a podcast?

Tap the search icon on the Podcasts tab. Search by name to discover podcasts, or tap "Add by URL" to paste an RSS feed link directly (including private Patreon feeds).

Can I stream episodes without downloading?

Yes. Tap any episode to start streaming immediately. The episode downloads in the background for offline access while you listen.

How do auto-downloads work?

When enabled per podcast, new episodes download automatically when detected during feed refresh. You can set a download limit per podcast to manage storage.

What are Smart Speed and Voice Boost?

Smart Speed shortens silences in spoken content without affecting speech. Voice Boost normalizes volume so all podcasts play at a consistent level. Both are available in the audio settings.

Can I import/export my subscriptions?

Yes. Go to Settings and use OPML Import or Export. OPML is the standard format supported by all podcast apps.

What does the tracking transparency feature show?

In each podcast's settings, the Privacy & Tracking section shows which analytics services the podcast publisher uses (like Chartable, Podtrac, etc.). These services may see your IP address when you download episodes. Melwyn detects them so you can make informed choices.

How do I add audiobooks?

Import M4B files from the Library tab, just like music. Audiobooks are automatically detected and appear in the Audiobooks tab with full chapter navigation.

Does it remember my position?

Yes. Position is saved automatically. When you resume, it rewinds a few seconds so you can pick up the context.

Does it play in the background?

Yes. Music and podcasts continue playing when you lock your phone or switch apps. Full lock screen and Control Center controls are supported.

What is the equalizer?

A 10-band graphic equalizer with 20 presets (Rock, Jazz, Bass Boost, etc.) or manual per-band adjustment. Access it from the audio settings in the Now Playing screen.

What are gapless playback and crossfade?

Gapless playback eliminates silence between tracks (great for concept albums). Crossfade smoothly blends the end of one track into the beginning of the next. Both can be configured in settings.

Does it work with AirPlay and Bluetooth?

Yes. Tap the output routing button on the Now Playing screen to select AirPlay speakers, Bluetooth headphones, or other audio devices.

Can I use Siri?

Yes. Melwyn provides Siri Shortcuts for playing tracks, playlists, and podcasts, as well as pausing, resuming, and setting sleep timers. Set them up in the Shortcuts app.

Does the app collect any data?

No. Melwyn has zero analytics, zero tracking SDKs, and no user accounts. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

Never. All audio files, playlists, and listening data stay on your device. Network requests only happen when you explicitly download a file, subscribe to a podcast, or search for podcasts.

How do I manage storage?

Go to Settings to see storage used by podcast downloads. You can set auto-cleanup to delete played episodes after a configurable period, or manage downloads per podcast.
